Since 1991, Hollander's has been nationally recognized as specialists in decorative papers and bookbinding supplies. The store currently stocks over 2,000 unique decorative papers, as well as many traditional artist papers. Most of the papers are imported from around the world and include large collections of decorative Italian prints, Japanese designs, and marbled papers.
Hollander's bookbinding supplies are geared towards all levels, but the focus is on beginners and intermediate binders. In addition to many different leathers and bookcloth, Hollander's store and website offers a wide variety of adhesives, bookbinding tools, and book repair supplies. They also sell various types of book board and offer a unique speciality service of custom book board cutting.
Although not available on the website, at their large retail store in Ann Arbor, Michigan, Hollander's sell artist supplies, stationery products, and a variety of unique gift related items.
From 1993 and until 2013, Hollander's School of Book & Paper Arts was located in the downstairs portion of the buliding and was highly regarded for its workshop offerings. Over the years they brought in many nationally known instructors and taught classes to several thousand students. Although currently they are not offering workshops, a select offering of workshops may return to Hollander's in the near future.
Hollander's is owned and operated by Tom and Cindy Hollander. Prior to opening their store in 1991, they spent many years creating a small craft business that consisted of handcrafting and selling decorative boxes and desk accessories. Several years ago, Tom and Cindy wrote Constructing and Covering Boxes. They are currently working on a second book on traditional bookbinding and box making and hope to have it available by the Spring of 2016.
