This page contains general information and how we determine pricing for the following two custom cutting services:
After you have received our quote and if you would like to place the order, copy the quote we provide and click on the link in the email that we send which will direct you to our custom service page in the shopping cart. Paste the quote in the CUSTOM SERVICE text box and type in the amount where indicated. Shipping is separate and will need to be determined based on the weight of your order.
Once we receive your order, it generally takes several days to process and ship.
Book Board Cutting
Because of the consistency in board thickness and size, our board cutting charges are standardized and based on the number of sheets required. We do all our board cutting on a large guillotine cutter and usually cut from 4 to 8 sheets at one time. All dimensions must be rounded to 1/8". Example: Measurements of 5 1/2" or 5 7/8" are acceptable. Measurements of 5 1/16" or 5.2" are not acceptable. Please note that although we attempt to be very accurate, because measurements are done by hand, occasionally there may be a slight variance of 1/32” to 1/16”.
A standard set-up charge of $10 applies to all board-cutting services. This fee is waived on all orders over $50. The minimum charge for board cutting services is $20. Board cutting orders are not eligible for reduced shipping rates. If a board order includes merchandise totaling over $100, a shipping credit of $10 will be applied to the total order.
Our board cutting is done on a large, electric guillotine cutter. The parent size of most of our board is 26" x 38" with grain running long. We do not cut a lot of odd sizes and/or small sizes, such as 3" x 3" or smaller.
We may round up or down slightly in the number of pieces we cut to maximize our board when estimating a quote. You will be informed of this when you receive our quote.
Our quotes do not include shipping and large board orders over $100 do not qualify for shipping credit. A standard shipping charge of $10 will apply unless the shipping cost is greater than $10. In this case, you will be charged the additional shipping.
Cutting Services are generally not eligible for Expedited Shipping services. Please contact us if this is a requirement.
Estimate Your Own Cutting Charges: Follow these steps to estimate your own cutting cost for cutting a single size of board. (If you have more than one size, we may group them on a single sheet and will attempt to maximize the use of a sheet of board.)
1. Determine size of the piece you want us to cut and round up by 1/2” to the nearest 1/2" for each dimensions. For example 5 3/8" x 7" becomes 6" x 7 1/2". The extra 1/2" is allowed so that we can back- cut each piece on the guillotine to make sure it is even and square.
Note: The measurement you submit to us is the exact measurement you want us to cut. DO NOT use the rounded up measurement when you submit your measurements for a quote.
2. Determine the grain direction of the board to be cut. It will run either long or short. Most often the grain runs long. If you are doing a book that is more vertical than horizontal, grain runs the same direction as the spine and is usually the longer direction. If the book is more horizontal than vertical, for example if it is a guest book or a landscape oriented photo album, the grain direction will often run short. In our example, we will say that the 7" length is grain long.
3. The parent sheet of book board that we will cut your order from is 26" x 38" with grain running long or along the 38" length.
4. To calculate how many pieces can be obtained from a full sheet, divide the short direction (6") into the 26" width. This will equal 4. Next, divide the long direction (7 1/2") length into 38" length. This will equal 5. This means we can get 20 pieces out of a single sheet. (4 x 5) = 20.
5. Cutting small pieces and/or numerous sizes may add to the cost of cutting.
6. Cutting set up charge of $10 is waived on all cutting orders over $50.
7. The following are the costs per sheet for various board thicknesses:
.087 Standard Bookboard: (This is our most economical board.)
$7 per sheet for up to the use of 10 parent sheets
$6.50 per sheet for over 10 parent sheets
.030 Conservation Board:
$7 per sheet for up to the use of 10 parent sheets
$6.50 per sheet for over 10 parent sheets
.060 Davey Board:
$10 per sheet for up to the use of parent 10 sheets
$9 per sheet for over parent 10 sheets
.080 Davey Board:
$11 per sheet for up to the use of parent 10 sheets
$10 per sheet for over parent 10 sheets
.098 Davey Board:
$13 per sheet for up to the use of 10 parent sheets
$12 per sheet for over 10 parent sheets
Paper Cutting
We do custom cutting for almost all of our decorative and artists papers. Currently our paper cutting services are evaluated only by contacting us directly. Unlike our board cutting service, we do not have a cutting form to fill out.
To receive a quote for custom paper cutting please send us an
email and include the following:
- Paper Name (Exact name as displayed on the website, please.)
- Dimensions (Round all measurements to 1/8")
- Quantities (For each size requested)
- Special Instructions. (i.e. grain direction of the paper or if the paper has a deckle edge, whether or not you want to keep it or have it cut off.)

Estimating Paper Cutting Charges: Calculating paper cutting is done differently than board cutting, primarily because paper is more fragile and also comes in varying sizes. We generally base the cost on the number of cuts and mostly will cut our papers on a 30” paper cutter, one sheet at a time.
Large cutting orders may sometimes be cut on the guillotine. We will need to evaluate each order to determine the exact cost.
As a general rule we charge .25 cents per cut. As with board cutting, all dimensions must be rounded to 1/8". Example: Measurements of 5 1/16" or 5.2" are not acceptable. Measurements of 5 1/2" or 5 7/8" are acceptable. Please note that although we attempt to be very accurate, there may be a slight variance of 1/32” to 1/16”.
The minimum charge for all paper cutting services is $10.
