Hollander’s workshops are offered year round in bookbinding, book arts, paper arts, printmaking, and other related topics. In addition to our own classes, our partnership with the American Academy of Bookbinding enables us to offer professional level workshops in fine binding and book conservation.

Daniel Essig

Daniel's unique sculptural and mixed-media books incorporate unusual woods, handmade paper,found objects, and fossils. Look for one of Daniel's workshop, during the Fall 2009 term at Hollander's.

American Academy
of Bookbinding

Hollander's, as partners with the American Academy of Bookbinding, offers professional level workshops in fine binding and book and paper conservation. Students are given 24 hour access to the workshop space.

Chiyogami are known for their repeating graphic designs. Originally printed by woodblock, today they are silkscreened.

Featured Workshop Instructor:
Julia Miller

Julia has been studying historical bindings for many years. After retiring from her position as senior conservator at the University of Michigan Conservation Lab in 1994, she has been involved with researching and recreating historical structures, including the Nag Hammadi codices (pictured above). The classes she teaches are designed to teach book artists some new approaches using old structures. Julia loves teaching and her research has spawned many ideas for her classes. Most recently, Julia received a fellowship to research and write a book on identifying and describing historical bindings. For more on Julia Miller, click here.
