Exhibit: Design Bindings presented by the Kerrytown BookFest

Exhibit Dates: July 22 through August 28

Exhibit Space: Ann Arbor Public Library, Downtstairs Display Cases

Exhibitor Statement:This exhibit will be a display of books designed and bound in the fine bookbinding tradition. The books will include a variety of decorative and artistic elements including gold tooling and inlays. Design bindings are expressive. Through meticulously executed, traditional bookbinding methods, design bindings evoke the theme or subject matter of the text contained within the book.

This exhibit will feature superior examples of fine binding from many well known fine binders, including several works by internationally known design binders Monique Lallier and Don Etherington, who has restored many important works including an original Magna Carta. Monique and Don are the honorary chairs of this year’s Kerrytown BookFest. In addition, various tools of the trade will be displayed.

The Kerrytown BookFest

The primary goal is to highlight our area‚s rich heritage in the book and printing arts while showcasing our local and regional individuals, businesses, and organizations. Since 2003 we have been growing, sharing, and discovering more and more about the rich book culture in our region. If you are interested in participating or for more information, please go to www.kerrytownbookfest.org

The 6th annual Kerrytown BookFest will be held, Sunday September 7, 2008 from 11:00 to 5:00.  One of the themes for the 2008 event will be Fine Binding and will be highlighted by presentations from Don Etherington and Monique Lallier.  Don and Monique are two of the world's finest in creating design bindings.

The Kerrytown BookFest is located in the Farmer’s Market of the Kerrytown District in downtown Ann Arbor, as well as at Hollander’s School of Book & Paper Arts and the Kerrytown Concert House. There is also an active Children's Tent with bookmaking, paper making, paper marbling, story telling, and even printing with a big fish, called goyaktu in Japan.
