Hollander's Workshop Space

Hollander’s School of Book & Paper Arts is nationally recognized for its course offerings and high quality instruction at all levels. The 1,500 sq.ft. studio is located directly below the store and offers plenty of work area, surrounded by traditional bookbinding and printing equipment.




Hollander's school contains a large workshop area with a glassed atrium overhead, allowing workshops to be observed from above. Throughout the year, regularly taught workshops include those in the book arts, bookbinding, letterpress printing, paper making, calligraphy, printmaking, and many others. School History

Hollander’s began offering workshops in 1994, when the first classes were taught in the back of their smaller store located on the second floor.  In 2001, Hollander's School expanded to it's current downstairs location. Over the years, Hollander's has acquired a variety of bookbinding and printing equipment.  In 2001 the first graduation ceremony was held and certificates were presented to students who had accumulated over 50 class hours. Currently there are over 150 graduates of Hollanders School of Book & Paper Arts and many of our students have taken over 500 hours and one over 1000!  In 2005, Hollander's partnered with the American Academy of Bookbinding and now hosts professional level one and two week workshops in fine binding and conservation.

Open Studio

Open Studio is available to all currently enrolled students and graduates of Hollander’s. It is availalbe on Monday evenings only. Additional open studio times are available by appointment. There is a nominal charge to use Open Studio. Learn more.

Equipment Available

Hollander's has a large 40" Jacques board shear, 24" guillotine cutter, two large backing presses, paper cutters, a large standing press, and many book presses, finishing presses, and sewing frames.  In addition, there is a variety of letterpress equipment including a Vandercook  Press, several table top Pilot Presses, a 1870's Pearl Press with foot treadle, over 80 drawers of wood and metal type, a Kwik Print Foil Stamper, and other related equipment. There are also two etching presses available for classes and Open Studio.

The Kerrytown Press

The Kerrytown Press is the working print shop located in Hollander’s School.  Hollander’s offers custom letterpress printing of invitations, announcements, etc. and allows customers to actually do their own printing.
